FAIR data management for all NWO InstitutesReinder Radersma about the new NWO-I Digital Competence Center (DCC) |
||||||
Within the NWO Institutes, the Open Access publishing of articles has almost become standard practice. But what about making your research data and software available? That is also a step that NWO-I wants to make its researchers aware of. Last September, Reinder Radersma started working at NWO-I as leader of the recently established NWO-I Digital Competence Center (DCC), housed at NWO Institute CWI. The DCC will provide low threshold advice, expertise and practical support to the researchers of the NWO Institutes to make their results, research data and research software suitable for reuse in the context of Open Science. |

For the Institutes Organisation, NWO-I produced a separate complaints procedure for (suspected) violations of scientific integrity by NWO-I employees. This article brings you the latest scientific integrity news, such as the newly appointed confidential advisers, the online scientific integrity training for PhDs, and the Dilemma Game app from Erasmus University Rotterdam. |

Highlight CWI: Huibregtsen Prize 2021 to ‘Mathematics for a safer and healthier Netherlands’ |
||||||
Ambulances must arrive at urgent situations within fifteen minutes but do not always achieve this. A new planning method for ambulances reduces the number of too late arrivals by 25 to 30 percent. Sandjai Bhulai (VU Amsterdam) and Rob van der Mei (CWI/VU Amsterdam) won the Huibregtsen Prize 2021 for, amongst other things, this mathematical solution from their research project ‘Mathematics for a safer and healthier Netherlands’. This is because they know how to combine scientific quality and innovation with a remarkable societal value. ‘This is not just about publishing in top scientific journals. It is mainly an example of how science can help to save lives’, says Rob van der Mei. |

So make sure you are well informed about the pension that you as an NWO-I employee have built up with ABP, the pension fund for employees in the government and education sectors. You can view all information online and arrange everything via www.mijnabp.nl. |

NWO celebrated... Diversity Day |
||||||
Diversity Day is a day of solidarity, when we show that a good mix of people in terms of cultural origin, sexual orientation, age, gender and occupational ability is nothing but positive. Only by making room for difference we can make the most of the power of diversity. This year’s Diversity Day was on Tuesday 5 October and, like many other organizations, NWO/NWO-I used the occasion to highlight diversity and inclusivity. In this article we outline current developments in this field within our organization, in both grants and personnel policy. |
