Collective Labour Agreement: an extra 2.6 percent and continuation Generation plan |
NWO-I and other research institutions have concluded a Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) with the trade unions. It includes a provision that salaries will increase by 2.6 percent as of 1 January 2020. The increase for January and February will be paid retroactively with your April salary. For those employees for whom the salary increase would be lower than 1,000 euros gross per year with a fulltime employment, the salary increase will be supplemented to that amount in 2020. The CAO also includes a section on sustainable deployment, in which the regulation ‘Generation plan’ will be continued on an ongoing basis. Under certain conditions it is also possible to take partially paid leave for voluntary work and there will be a possibility for taking unpaid leave for providing informal care. The CAO will remain in force until 1 January 2021. |

Highlight ARCNL: mass loss from a thin sheet of tin |
“We were amazed that we could see light shine through a sheet of liquid tin”, says Oscar Versolato (EUV Plasma Processes group at NWO Institute ARCNL). The group studies tin microdroplets that become a hot and dense plasma, emitting EUV light for state-of-the-art nanolithography. In the process of creating such a plasma, a tin droplet is hit by an energetic laser pulse and deforms into an ultrathin sheet. PhD student Bo Liu developed two methods to measure the thickness of these tin sheets and determine their mass loss. |
