Open day at NWO institutes

Peeking in surprise-eggs, make your own telescope and the Large Worms-lecture. On 5 and 6 October NWO Institutes AMOLF, ARCNL, CWI, Nikhef, NIOZ en SRON open their doors for everybody. During Weekend of Science both children and adults can get to know fascinating NWO science via workshops, demo’s lectures and tours.

Saturday 5 October
Open day Amsterdam Science Park
At AMOLF there are various activities and lectures. Children aged eight years and older are welcome at the “Large Worms” lecture.
At ARCNL there are various activities and lectures. The researchers will be pleased to show you around their new labs.
At Nikhef there are mini-lectures, workshops and tours. You can get to know the Higgs particle, antimatter, neutrinos, gravitational waves and far more.
At CWI there are lectures as well as a mathematics and ICT market. With the FleX-ray Scanner, the contents of surprise eggs can be seen without breaking the egg open.

The Open Day of Amsterdam Science Park is a collaboration between AMOLF, AUC, CWI, Netherlands eScience Center, Nikhef, SURFsara and UvA-FNWI and is part of the Weekend of Science.

Saturday 5 October
Open day NIOZ, Texel
At NIOZ on Texel you can dive into sea research. You can learn more about how the deep sea floor acts as an archive and how migratory birds with radio transmitters are followed everywhere.

Sunday 6 October
Open day SRON Utrecht and SRON Groningen
In Utrecht, you can discover how space instruments are designed and made. There are special activities for children. For example, they can make their own telescope or star map. And they can have a photo made in space wearing an astronaut's helmet.
In Groningen, you can see how supersensitive cameras for use on space telescopes are devised and constructed. Various demonstrations and presentations will also be held. For children, there are children's lectures and there is a construction corner where they can build their own equipment ...

The institutes NSCR, ASTRON and DIFFER are not open this year during the Weekend of Science.
